mesma actividade.
The aim of this study is to examine how a professional identity emerges for those that work in Socio-cultural Animation. Considering the social settings in which professional relations take place, and the present phase of modernity development, this study attempts to describe what are the actual work conditions, how the career is represented and how Socio-cultural Animators forsee their future. Diferent broad as well as specific sociological theories about professional development were examined and from there a conceptual research framework was derived. The participants were young adults that graduated in Socio-cultural Animation from 2000 to 2005 in a professional school in the Lisbon area and that, when the data were collected, were working in a diverse range of organizations. An extensive methodology was used, based both on questionnaires and interviews. The results suggest that Socio-cultural Animators perceive their profession as risky, because it lacks a clear professional identity. Therefore, additional professional projects are mostly considered outside this area.
