Esta dissertação é um estudo etnomusicológico em torno do revivalismo das práticas musicais associadas à viola campaniça no concelho de Castro Verde, entre a década de 1980 e a atualidade. Analiso o papel dos agentes locais na revitalização do instrumento, com realce para a Rádio Castrense, Cooperativa Cortiçol, Câmara Municipal de Castro Verde, José Francisco Colaço Guerreiro e o tocador Pedro Mestre. Mais especificamente, contextualizo o objeto de estudo em termos históricos, analiso as motivações, objetivos e atividades desenvolvidas pelos principais agentes que acionaram o processo revivalista, descrevo as mudanças efetuadas na prática, assim como a morfologia, usos, funções e contextos performativos da viola campaniça na atualidade
This dissertation is an ethonomusicological study of the revival of musical practices associated with the viola campaniça in the town of Castro Verde, between the late 1980’s and at the present. I analyze the role played by local agents in the revitalization of this musical instrument, highlighting Rádio Castrense, Cooperativa Cortiçol, Câmara Municipal de Castro Verde, José Francisco Colaço Guerreiro and the viola campaniça’s player Pedro Mestre. More specifically, I contextualize the object of study in its historical aspects, analyze the motivations, goals and activities developed by the major agents who activated the revival process and describe the changes that took place in the practice, as well as the morphological aspects, uses, functions and performative contexts of the viola campaniça at the present.
