Esta dissertação propõe uma análise de cinco contos da escritora Alice Munro, nos
quais o processo de adoecimento desempenha um papel central na condução das
narrativas, estabelecendo relações simbólicas entre a doença e o motivo das
metamorfoses. A pesquisa dialoga com os campos da Medicina Narrativa e dos estudos
de Literatura e Medicina, com o objetivo de oferecer uma leitura voltada para a
humanização da figura do paciente na ficção. A análise é enriquecida por um diálogo com
obras clássicas da literatura que abordam metamorfoses, o que permite uma reflexão mais
ampla sobre as transformações físicas e psicológicas associadas à experiência da
enfermidade.
This dissertation offers an analysis of five short stories by Alice Munro, in which the process of illness plays a central role in the development of the narratives, establishing symbolic connections between illness and the theme of metamorphosis. The research engages with the fields of Narrative Medicine and Literature and Medicine studies, aiming to offer a reading focused on the humanization of the patient figure in fiction. The analysis is enriched by a dialogue with classical literary works that address metamorphoses, allowing for a broader reflection on the physical and psychological transformations associated with the experience of illness.
