The Portuguese Colonial War is one of the most remarkable events in Portuguese history, dating back to the second half of the 20th century. The generation that participated in this armed conflict is, in the current year of 2020, aged 68 and over. Focusing the investigation within the scope of Sociology, we approach aging as a process that accompanies the life cycle, with the purpose of analyzing how participation in the Colonial War conditions the life trajectories and the aging process of ex-soldiers from different branches of service, such as the Navy, Army, and Air Force; and in different theaters of operations, namely Angola, Guinea and Mozambique, where they served between 1961 and 1975, in the Colonial War, with the exploratory study being de-signed, we used a non-probabilistic sampling. Based on interviews carried out with 30 former combatants, we characterized the target population, in sociodemographic terms, we sought to identify the relationships between their par-ticipation in the Colonial War, life trajectories, and the aging process of the target population. In accordance with the successive changes in the legislation referred to in this study, what we intend with it is to determine the mechanisms, dynamics, as well as the support of the schemes, whether from social security or from the general retirement fund, in which former com-batants receive it once a year.
