O presente documento ilustra e reflete sobre a experiência de estágio no Estado-Maior da Armada (Marinha Portuguesa) realizado ao longo da primeira metade de 2023 no âmbito da componente não letiva do Mestrado em Ciência Política e Relações Internacionais. O estágio proporcionou a convergência entre a teoria e a prática nos domínios da estratégia e da geopolítica, permitiu desenvolver a investigação “Sobre as potências continentais e a sua [presumida] propensão para o mar” e contribuiu para a sofisticação do pensamento estratégico no que ao domínio marítimo diz respeito. Sob a tutoria do Capitão-de-fragata Véstia Cagarrinho, o estagiário foi integrado no quotidiano da Divisão de Planeamento, realizou tarefas e participou em atividades várias. Através do envolvimento proativo com a instituição, o estagiário familiarizou-se com as suas missões, estrutura, competências e ethos. O estágio resultou numa experiência pessoalmente e profissionalmente enriquecedora que acrescentou às valências e perspetiva do estagiário.
This document illustrates and reflects on the internship experience at the Navy General Staff (Portuguese Navy) carried out during the first half of 2023 within the non-teaching component of the Master’s in Political Science and International Relations. The internship facilitated the convergence between theory and practice in the realms of strategy and geopolitics, enabled the development of the research “Sobre as potências continentais e a sua [presumida] propensão para o mar” and contributed to the refinement of strategic thinking regarding maritime affairs. Under the mentorship of Commander Véstia Cagarrinho, the intern was integrated into the daily routine of the Plans and Policy Division, performed tasks, and participated in various activities. Through proactive engagement with the institution, the intern became familiar with its missions, structure, competencies, and ethos. The internship resulted in a personally and professionally enriching experience that enhanced the skills and perspective of the intern.
