At the heart of innovation, R&D departments of FMCG companies have undergone
transformational change towards digitalised processes. Incorporating state-of-the-art
technologies requires R&D employees to possess knowledge and skillsfor digital transformation.
This paper identifies eight key Skills for Digital Transformation from relevant literature and
analyses them through a thematic analysis of 25 R&D job descriptions of seven FMCG firms.
Additionally, four relevant themes in R&D job advertisements are investigated. The results
confirm the relevance of the key skills identified and provide several recommendations for
Human Resource departments on how to emphasise them in future R&D job descriptions.
