No presente estudo, objetivou-se verificar o desempenho acadêmico dos estudantes cotistas e não cotistas da Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA). A lei de cotas tem por objetivo garantir a reserva de vagas nas universidades e institutos federais do Brasil, para estudantes oriundos do ensino médio em escolas públicas. Pesquisas indicam que os cotistas vêm correspondendo ao esperado, mas pouco se sabe sobre a efetividade dessa política de ação afirmativa. A metodologia utilizada foi pesquisa exploratória, tendo como coleta de dados o levantamento bibliográfico. Os dados utilizados pertencem a uma base de dados do Sistema Eletrônico do Serviço de Informação ao Cidadão (e-SIC), gerada a partir do banco de dados do Sistema Integrado de Gestão (SIG), gerenciado pela Diretoria de Gestão e Tecnologia da Informação (DGTI), da Universidade Federal de Lavras e correspondem ao período do 1º semestre de 2015 ao 2º semestre de 2017. Os resultados comprovam que a política de cotas, além de permitir o acesso dos grupos citados na pesquisa, está sendo eficaz no que diz respeito ao desempenho, demonstrando que os estudantes cotistas melhoram muito o seu desempenho acadêmico, comparativamente ao grupo da ampla concorrência.
This study aimed to verify the academic performance of quota and non-quota students at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA). The purpose of the quota law is to guarantee the reservation of vacancies in universities and federal institutes in Brazil for students coming from high school in public schools. Research indicates that quota holders have been meeting expectations, but little is known about the effectiveness of this affirmative action policy. The methodology used was exploratory research, having as data collection the bibliographic survey. The data used belong to a database of the Electronic Citizen Information Service (eSIC) System, generated from the Integrated Management System (SIG) database, managed by the Information Technology and Management Department (DGTI) Federal University of Lavras and correspond to the period from the 1st semester of 2015 to the 2nd semester of 2017. The results show that the quota policy, besides allowing the access of the groups mentioned in the research, is being effective in terms of performance, demonstrating that quota students greatly improve their academic performance compared to the broad competition group.
