particular.
The strong relations that China has developed with Portuguese-speaking countries have led to a growing appreciation of the Portuguese language in the country and in the Macau region in particular. Although many higher education institutions offer Portuguese language learning as part of their curriculum, it is observed that its teaching continues to focus on writing, memorization of characters, and grammatical content, often neglecting the practice of oral skills. This, however, limits students' opportunities to develop their oral communication skills, which are essential for real-life language use. To address this challenge, during our internship, we decided to create specific materials targeting this domain (listening comprehension, oral production, and interaction) for higher education students at the A1 proficiency level. Thus, we aim to develop content using authentic materials that enable us to work with students on listening comprehension, oral expression, and interaction. These materials will emphasize the cultural component and will also serve to teach grammar in a contextualized manner. We believe this approach can provide a more complete and integrated linguistic education for students of Portuguese as a foreign language at the institution where our internship is taking place, better preparing them for effective communication in Portuguese. We also hope this work will foster academic reflection on ways to overcome the limitations of Macau's educational system in terms of teaching methodologies, promoting a more balanced and practical approach to learning Portuguese.
