A literacia é sinónimo
sistema suporte essas pessoas.
In a world that is increasingly global and where migration of people is faced in a natural way, there are often questions related to the integration of immigrants in the host country in all its aspects: social, educational, political, labour, etc. This integration is much easier the more adapted the system is to host those that arrive. Still, immigrants, depending on their economic and social situation, may have some necessities, to which there is an urgent need to respond. When these are related to education, or the lack of it, integration can be more or less easy. Through education everything is more accessible: the labour market, health, access to power, the influence in society and education itself. Literacy is synonymous with personal, economic and social success. Mastering the language of the host country is, therefore, essential for a successful integration. But when there is no sufficient literary knowledge, it is mandatory that the system supports these people. In the case of illiterate people, who have not yet had the opportunity to attend the school system for many reasons, it is essential to introduce solutions that meet their needs. These solutions are all about creating more or less formal environments of learning, in which you can alphabetize the immigrant who is acquiring, at the same time, the foreign language in question. To do so it is necessary to use the appropriate teaching and learning methodologies, to create the proper resources and to invest in the training of teachers. In France and Brazil there is a long history regarding literacy, but in Portugal, although there are plenty of resources in what concerns learning Portuguese as a foreign language, there is still a long way to go in the field of literacy for immigrants. The important thing is not to forget that investing in the illiterate people is to invest in the growth of the country.
