This report is an unabridged requirement for the award of the Master’s Degree in Political Science and International Relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Having, at its core, an internship program held in the Direction for European Political Affairs, under the supervision of the General Direction for Foreign Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from September 28th, 2018 to March 1st, 2019. It shows how rigorous the evaluation is from the development stage to the empirical spectrum, as well as the need for a robust academic and scientific background. The practical lessons were paramount for the technical application of the Portuguese foreign policy in Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia regions. The key research topic under investigation throughout the program relates to the bilateral relationship between Portugal and Central Asian republics, mainly concerning their economic, political, diplomatic, and energetic framework. From a domestic, individual analysis of each country situation, this report also aims to comprehend their interactions with regional players, European Union, China, and Russia.
