A relação da tradução com o jornalismo apenas recentemente começou a despertar o
interesse dos Estudos de Tradução. Numa redação, a tradução é vista como um meio e
não um fim e é realizada por jornalistas. A ausência de tradutores nas redações e a
relutância dos jornalistas em identificarem-se como tradutores dificultam o estudo desta
área.
Tendo como base o estágio curricular no jornal diário Público, o presente relatório tem
como objetivo demonstrar a utilização da explicitação e implicitação como estratégias de
tradução para tradutores e jornalistas, dentro do contexto da tradução jornalística de cariz
político de inglês para português, de textos do jornal The Washington Post e da agência
Reuters.
Para este efeito, após a descrição do estágio, foi realizada uma análise da tipologia de
textos e problemáticas que surgiram durante a presença da tradutora no Público.
Posteriormente, foi realizada uma reflexão teórica sobre o conceito de transedição, os
textos jornalísticos e o texto jornalístico de cariz político, a temática geral dos textos
trabalhados. Por fim, analisou-se um corpus de dez textos onde foram utilizadas a
explicitação e a implicitação, textos traduzidos por uma tradutora e editados por uma
jornalista, que comprova que as estratégias de tradução são transversais a tradutores e
jornalistas.
The relationship between translation and journalism only recently has begun to attract the attention of Translation Studies scholars. In a newsroom, translation is seen as a mean and not an end and is performed by journalists. The lack of translators in newsrooms and the resistance of journalists of being recognized as translators hinder the study of this subject. Considering the internship on the daily newspaper Público, this report aims to demonstrate the use of explicitation and implicitation as translation strategies, within the political journalism translation context from English to Portuguese, of the newspaper The Washington Post and Reuters News Agency texts. For this purpose, after the description of the internship, an analysis of the type of texts and problems that came up during the presence of the translator in Público was conducted. After, a theoretical framework about transediting, the journalistic texts and the journalistic text of political nature, the general theme of the texts, is analyzed. Lastly, a corpus of ten texts in which explicitation and implicitation were used was analyzed. These texts were translated by a translator and edited by an editor, which shows that these strategies are common to translators and journalists.
