aprendizagem.
This dissertation aims to present two representative methods of teaching of foreign languages, which are the traditional grammar-translation method and the PBL method (project-based learning), and make a comparison between these two methods, by presenting their origins, characteristics as well as their general uses in the current context of teaching and learning of foreign languages in China. In addition, the paper also aims to address more specifically the use of these two methods in the teaching and learning of PLE (portuguese as a foreign language) in Chinese universities, since the portuguese language is gaining more and more popularity in China and there are few investigations that discuss the methods used in this area. To this end, an empirical study was carried out, with questionnaires distributed to Chinese learners in the PLE courses in order to know their opinions about these two methods, their gains and / or difficulties found in the learning process. In this way, it will be possible to know the needs of the Chinese PLE learners and to know what will be the most appropriate method for them to be able to learn the Portuguese language more efficiently.
