Portugal está muito perto de se tornar um dos maiores países marítimos do
mundo. A expectável aprovação da extensão da plataforma continental garantirá ao país
francas hipóteses de prospecção a todos os níveis, económico, social, cultural e
ambiental. O alcance desta iminente extensão é sem dúvida um dos maiores
acontecimentos que Portugal terá, assim como a importância e a influência que possuirá
a nível mundial. Encontramo-nos actualmente em situações incertas em relação ao
nosso futuro político, social e ambiental. A geopolítica e o ambiente como as
conhecemos hoje ganham cada vez mais uma posição de destaque nas relações
internacionais. Analisar e perceber o impacto ambiental que se causará com a extensão
da plataforma continental e as relações internacionais de Portugal que se formaram com
os diversos actores do espaço marítimo constituem-se como os objectivos principais
desta dissertação.
Portugal is very close to becoming one of the largest maritime countries in the world. Expected approval of the extension of the continental shelf will guarantee the country frank prospects at all levels, economic, social, cultural and environmental. The scope of this imminent extension is undoubtedly one of the greatest events that Portugal will have, as well as the importance and influence it will have worldwide. We are currently in uncertain situations regarding our political, social and environmental future. Geopolitics and the environment as we know them today are increasingly gaining a prominent position in international relations. Analyzing and understanding the environmental impact that will be caused by the extension of the continental shelf and the international relations of Portugal that were formed with the various players in the maritime space constitute the main objectives of this dissertation.
