atitude perante a condição humana.
This dissertation presents an analysis of laughter in Eça de Queirós and Nietzsche with the aim of demonstrating how this is not a peripheral theme in the thought of both authors. Particularly in the case of Nietzsche, whose style of aphoristic writing elevates the difficulty of systematizing the theme by the dispersion of references to laughter throughout his work, but for that very reason leads us to conclude the central importance of the theme in his thought. In both cases, we tried to establish an analysis of the authors' thinking by comparison with the philosophical tradition about laughter (Theory of Superiority, Theory of Relief and Theory of Incongruity), thus proposing to evaluate the extent to which they approach or depart from that same tradition. Both recognize the importance of laughter as a strong instrument of criticism and affirmation, and that the presence or absence of laughter differentiates our attitude towards the human condition. In these aspects lies the originality of laughter in Eça de Queirós and Nietzsche that brings them together. It is to this extent that we have attempted to demonstrate how laughter is an instrument of struggle against nihilism by proposing that the authors in question argue that such a struggle can be carried out through a humorous and affirmative attitude (which must include the capacity of the man to be able to laugh at himself), and that this attitude is compatible with the realization of the absurd and the tragic sense of life
