The Internet and technological developments have brought undeniable changes to journalism, with impact on journalistic practices, values and the published content itself. Nowadays, newspapers struggle to adapt the content to different platforms, with different potentialities and characteristics. In this sense, the way the media reports events that have a direct impact on society is extremely important for the formation of public opinion. Based on a curricular internship held in the online section of the Público newspaper for six months, it is intended to understand how content differs from paper to online through the analysis of the news coverage of the debate on the decriminalization of euthanasia in the Portuguese Parliament in 2018, a very controversial subject in which the media played an important role, to later reflect on the implications that digital brought to journalism and what the future of the profession holds. The news coverage of the referred subject is analyzed through methods such as literature review, participant observation, content analysis and interviews with professionals. The results show that content differs according to the platform used, with impact on the number of sources heard, size of articles, position adopted and use of multimedia resources.
