Neste Trabalho de Projecto pretendeu-se levar a cabo a tradução de inglês para português dos verbetes “Court/Legal Interpreting” (2012), de Debra Russell, e “Technical Translation” (2010), de Klaus Schubert, a serem publicados na versão online da enciclopédia The Handbook of Translation Studies (2010-2014), bem como reflectir sobre os mesmos e respectivas traduções. O objectivo do presente trabalho reside na tradução dos verbetes em questão, tendo em vista o modo como aqueles poderão vir a auxiliar estudantes de tradução, académicos ou curiosos com interesse pela tradução e interpretação em contexto jurídico e pela tradução técnica. Após uma contextualização das áreas da tradução técnica e da tradução jurídica, seguir-se-ão as traduções dos verbetes propriamente ditos e uma reflexão, teoricamente fundamentada, sobre os problemas e as dificuldades tradutórias. Nesta reflexão torna-se possível detectar problemas culturais, linguísticos e gramaticais, bem como algumas dificuldades a nível linguístico, extralinguístico e estratégico. Com este Trabalho de Projecto pode concluir-se que a tradução constitui um processo mental complexo, o qual requer subcompetências linguísticas, extralinguísticas, profissionais, de transferência e estratégicas.
The aim of this Research Project is to provide an informative translation that can help students and other people interested in legal translation. In order to achieve the aim of this project I will provide a translation of the article “Court/Legal Interpreting” (2012) by Debra Russell and of the article “Technical Translation” (2010) by Klaus Schubert, from English to Portuguese, to be published in the online version of the encyclopedia The Handbook of Translation Studies (2010-2014). I will also provide a theoretical reflection on the articles and their translation. Firstly, I will give a brief notion of technical translation and legal translation. Secondly, I will provide the translation of the articles, which will be followed by a critical reflection of the translation problems and difficulties experienced during the translation process. In the reflection it is possible to detect cultural, linguistic and grammar problems, as well as linguistic, extra linguistic and strategy difficulties. With this Project I concluded that translation is a complex mental process that requires linguistic, extra linguistic and strategic competencies.
