À globalização é comumente imputada a responsabilidade pelo enfraquecimento do poder tradicional do Estado. Do ponto de vista ambiental, este sofre a degradação ecológica derivada de circunstâncias externas desencadeadas pela globalização do ambiente. No caso da erosão costeira em Portugal, ao longo do século XX, os dados disponíveis apontam para uma não incidência prevalecente de um forçamento antrópico de origem internacional. A globalização parece não ter ditado a degradação ecológica, mas irá agravá-la ao longo do século XXI.
Globalization is usually held responsible for the decline of the traditional power of States. From an environmental point of view, it suffers the ecological degradation derived from external circumstances caused by the globalization of the environment. For Portugal, in the case of coastal erosion over the XX Century, the data available points to a non prevalence of the international human-induced causes. Ecological degradation seems not to have been caused by globalization, but it will exacerbate it over the XXI Century.
