O presente estudo será subordinado ao tema da descrição e da ilustração de livros
de fantasia, através da análise de duas obras específicas de Philip Pullman, Once Upon a
Time in the North e Lyra’s Oxford. Abordar-se-á a importância destes temas aquando da
publicação de livros de fantasia. Sublinha-se a necessidade de referir que a ilustração
remete para a descrição, e parte desta dissertação de mestrado passa por definir como é
que a primeira ajuda no processo de imaginação do leitor. Também será feita uma análise
quanto à utilidade da ilustração, e se, em termos editoriais, valerá a pena investir na
ilustração de livros de fantasia
This study is subordinated to the theme of description and illustration of fantasy books, through the analysis of two specific Philip Pullman’s works: Once Upon a Time in the North and Lyra’s Oxford. These themes will be referred to in terms of their importance when publishing a fantasy book. It is important to assert that illustration alludes to depiction, and part of this master’s dissertation aim is to define how the first supports the reader through the imagination process. An analysis of the illustration’s utility, in the editorial medium, will take place, while questioning if it is worth investing in fantasy novel’s illustration.
