As part of the Masters Course in Publishing, this report's aim is to be a reflection of the work I undertook as an intern at Cotovia, one of the most well-known Portuguese independent publishers, over the course of three months. Through the description and detailed analysis of the several tasks I performed, the goal is to establish a connection between a book’s editing process and the way the publishing and book market works. Some considerations about what defines Cotovia and the way it works will also be made. Leveraging a practical approach, sustained by some theoretical considerations, the main difficulties found along the way will be indicated, as well as how they were solved. Finally, there will also be a brief reflection on a specific case that due to its characteristics can be compared to Cotovia’s history.
