Com o intuito de contribuir para as investigações das Ciências Sociais, a presente dissertação procura relacionar a Sociologia às relações dos atores com os animais de estimação. Através da análise de conteúdo das entrevistas semidiretivas a donos de animais de estimação residentes em Lisboa, será apresentado a representação social que estes têm perante os animais, dando maior foco ao seu pet. Também se abordará os motivos para se adotar um animal de estimação; os tipos de relacionamentos que existem entre os mesmos; os benefícios e as desvantagens desta relação, e por último, as emoções patenteadas durante o trabalho. Todas estas conclusões serão, então, relacionadas com as atitudes emocionais e ações adotadas que o ator teve, ou que se imagina a ter perante a possível morte do animal.
Aiming to contribute to social science researches this dissertation intents to correlate sociology to the relationships between actors and pets. Through the analysis of content from semi directives interviews to pets’ owners from Lisbon it will be determined the social representation that they have towards the animals, focusing on their pets. In addition to this it will also be addressed the motives for adopting a pet; the different types of relationships between the two; the benefits and disadvantages regarding this relationship, and last but not least, the emotions disclosed during this project. All of the outcomes will be related to the emotional attitudes and actions that the actor has endorsed or that he will imagine himself to carry facing a possible death.
