A Dissertação almeja lançar luzes sobre a história urbana de Vila Rica – desde 1823 Imperial Cidade de Ouro Preto – na primeira metade do século XIX, considerando-a como “lugar” – ou seja, simultaneamente como resultado, meio e agente da interação entre o “espaço” e as práticas e as representações individuais e coletivas. O tema será encarado dentro do tópico mais abrangente do fenómeno urbano em Minas Gerais, observado desde os primórdios, no século XVIII – que apresenta características que o singularizam no panorama brasileiro – e posto em relação com as evoluções da economia da Capitania, após 1822 Província, entre os Setecentos e os Oitoicentos – que foram igualmente específicas. A análise de fontes primárias concernentes a uns moradores da sua via principal complementará o exame do perfil socioeconómico da população de Vila Rica-Ouro Preto nas primeiras décadas do século XIX conduzido através de fontes secundárias.
The dissertation aims to throw light on the urban history of Vila Rica – from 1823 Imperial City of Ouro Preto – in the first half of the XIX century, by considering it as a “place” – that is, at the same time, the result, the medium and the agent of the interaction between the “space” and the individual and collective practices and representations. The subject will be framed in the wider topic of the urban phenomenon in Minas Gerais, observed since its beginnings, in the XVIII century – which presents unique characteristics in the Brazilian complex – and will be viewed in conjunction with the economic evolutions occurred in the Captaincy, after 1822 Province, in the XVIII and XIX centuries – which have been likewise specific. The analysis of primary sources will complement the examination of the socio-economic profile of the population of Vila Rica-Ouro Preto in the first decades of the XIX century that will be conducted through secondary sources
