The purpose of this project work is to create a guidebook setting up the itinerary between Lisbon and Peniche that will allow a deeper understanding of the military architecture between these two cities. The defense of the capital city has always been a cause of concern throughout the various dynasties of the History of Portugal, however, the time span covered by this project is between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. During these centuries the development of military architecture and the art of war increased the necessity to strengthen the defenses of the Tagus estuary. This guide is composed of the geographic context of the various regions, the history context of fortifications in Portugal, and the itinerary itself. The itinerary is endowed with information about each of the fortifications, their coordinates and illustrations.
