quotidianos, a presente dissertação procura, a partir do estudo sistemático do espólio
tempos.
Strategically built atop of a mount with an evident military purposes, especially for territorial defense and surveillance, Alenquer Castle has certainly fulfilled, in the same manner and resemblance as with its counterparts, a civil, political and administrative component. The archaeological works carried out on-site by Hipólito Cabaço, during the 20’s and the 30’s of the twentieth century, allowed to recover an interesting set of artefacts, in its majority unprecedented until the present day. This way, the present study allowed to recognize a wide chronological diachronic beacon between the 1st/2nd quarter of the 3rd millennium B.C. and the contemporary era, identifying important testimonies of the everyday experiences of past populations who inhabit, in a continuous or unstoppable way, that place. Alenquer Castle and its walls singlehandedly exert the symbolism of social economic superiority and its lords superiority over the inside walls inhabitants and ones from the surrounding areas. They are a memory of siege and attack, of attackers and the besieged, of clashes or alliances between coexisting cultures; of specific daily routines in male and female domains, of common practices such as eating or praying in different social stratum, whether prestigious or disadvantaged. Although we know little about the fortification evolution and its everyday routines, this dissertation seeks, from the systematic study of the estate exhumed in the place, and of an attempt of reconstitution of the archaeological interventions that there passed, chiefly for initiative of Hipólito Cabaço, to interpret the Site as a dynamic unit, adding knowledge regarding the Alenquer of the past.
