A China e a América Latina e Caraíbas têm alcançado um processo de integração
significativo nos últimos 15 anos. Partindo de uma perspetiva latino-americana,
apresentamos os desafios e as oportunidades que se apresentam da influência
chinesa para a região. Analisamos os impactos dessa influência para América
Latina e Caraíbas tendo atenção ao smart power como elemento da política
externa da China. O resultado do impacto, em termos gerais é de uma crescente
suscetibilidade por parte da América Latina, traduzindo-se numa relação de
interdependência assimétrica
China and Latin America, including the Caribbean, have been undergoing a significant process of integration in the last 15 years. Taking a Latin American perspective, we look at the opportunities and challenges that surface as a result of Chinese influence in the region. We analysed the impacts of this influence to Latin America and the Caribbean paying attention to the idea of smart power in relation to Chinese foreign policy. The impact, in general, is a growing sensitivity in Latin America to a perceived growing asymmetrical interdependent relationship.
