O presente trabalho propõe uma reflexão sobre o olhar do colonizador português e alemão no que diz respeito à raça do Outro, durante os respectivos processos de colonização. O tema da raça foi largamente debatido na sociedade alemã, atendendo às proporções tomadas na sequência do Holocausto.
Acreditamos ser importante estabelecer esta comparação das duas colonizações, de forma a compreendermos as bases do olhar sobre o Outro no caso alemão, bem como aprofundarmos a realidade do contacto com o Outro no caso português.
Ao compararmos os dois casos, apesar de terem ocorrido em épocas distintas, verificamos um conjunto de semelhanças no discurso empregue, resultante da perspectivação do Outro e acima de tudo do Eu durante os contactos. O foco da nossa análise é colocado na ambiguidade presente nas referidas colonizações e na sua tendência a fantasiar e a hierarquizar o Outro.
This research aims to reflect on the Portuguese and German colonizers approach, in regards to the Other’s race, throughout the corresponding colonization process. The Race theme was widely debated on the German society, considering the events during the Holocaust. We believe that it is important to make a comparison between both colonization processes, in order to understand the German perspective about the Other, as well as to deepen the reality about the Portuguese contact with the Other. By comparing these two processes, even if considering they have happened in two completely different periods of time, we may find some resemblances on its perspective, not only of the Other, but of the colonizer himself, as a result of these contacts. We will be focusing on the ambiguity always present on the aforementioned colonization, along with the trend to fantasize and rank the Other.
