O presente relatório de estágio inscreve-se no âmbito da componente não letiva do
Mestrado em Tradução (Especialização em Inglês) realizada durante o ano letivo
2023/2024. Nele se documenta o estágio em tradução literária que teve lugar na Guerra
& Paz, Editores. O seu objetivo é dar a conhecer os desafios da tradução indireta, de modo
a contribuir para libertar esta prática dos preconceitos ainda prevalecentes em relação à
mesma, por meio dos comentários às traduções da novela Der Amokläufer, de Stefan
Zweig, e do romance Die Leiden des jungen Werthers, de Johann Wolfgang von Goethe,
com o inglês como língua intermediária. O relatório encontra-se dividido em seis
capítulos, acrescidos da introdução e da conclusão: o primeiro apresenta a editora e
contextualiza os parâmetros em que se deu o estágio; o segundo e o terceiro capítulos
introduzem cada um dos autores e respetivas obras em apreço, para além da sua receção
em Portugal; o quarto fornece um enquadramento teórico de forma a aprofundar as
principais temáticas envolvidas; o quinto e o sexto capítulos refletem não só sobre o
processo de tradução do seu respetivo texto que tratam, como também sobre o que se
pode deduzir acerca da tradução indireta através dos casos analisados.
The present report constitutes the final stage of the Masters in Translation (English), which took place during the school year of 2023/2024, documenting the literary translation internship carried out at Guerra & Paz, Editores. It aims to shed some light over the challenges of indirect translation to contribute to freeing this practice from the prejudices still prevalent against it through a commentary on the translations of the novella Der Amokläufer, by Stefan Zweig, and the epistolary novel Die Leiden des jungen Werthers, by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, with English as the intermediary language. The report is divided into six chapters, with the addition of the introduction and the conclusion: the first presents the publisher and contextualizes the parameters in which the internship took place; the second and third chapters introduce each author and the respective works, as well as their reception in Portugal; the fourth provides a theoretical framework of the main issues involved; the fifth and sixth chapters reflect not only on the translation process of each respective text they address, but also on what can be deduced about indirect translation through the cases under analysis.
