Um texto não é uma entidade fixa, mas sim um objeto que sofre diversas modificações ao longo do seu processo de transmissão. Se a transmissão de um texto revela um afastamento do texto original do autor, é essencial analisar o processo pelo qual passou. No caso de Emily Dickinson, as lições deixadas são muitas e as escolhas editorias feitas ao longo do tempo também. Esta dissertação pretende analisar de que maneira o estudo biográfico da poeta afetou as opções editoriais tomadas pelos principais editores: Martha Bianchi, Thomas Johnson, Ralph W. Franklin, Ellen Louise Hart, Martha Nell Smith e Marta Werner. Através da análise da biografia definida por cada um e consequente edição, é estabelecida uma relação entre a visão biográfica e as escolhas editoriais. É concluído que a fixação dos princípios e finalidade da edição é significativamente distinta de editor para editor e que muitas das decisões tomadas podem ter como fundamento a imagem criada da poeta. A presença da biografia na transmissão do texto traduz-se de maneiras distintas em cada caso.
A text is not a fixed entity, but an object that undergoes various modifications throughout its transmission process. If the transmission of a text reveals a departure from the author's original text, it’s essential to analyze the process it went through. In Emily Dickinson’s case, the lessons left behind are many and so are the editorial choices made over time. This dissertation aims to analyze how the biographical study of the poet affected the editorial choices made by her main editors: Martha Bianchi, Thomas Johnson, Ralph W. Franklin, Ellen Louise Hart, Martha Nell Smith and Marta Werner. By analyzing the biography defined by each one and the consequent edition, a connection is established between the biographical vision and the editorial choices. It’s concluded that the editing principles and purposes differ significantly from editor to editor and that many of the decisions made can be based on the image created of the poet. The presence of the biography in the transmission of the text is reflected in different ways in each case.
