Resumo(s)
A presente dissertação parte do reconhecimento da escassez de estudos dedicados à
comunicação de ciência nas ciências sociais e humanas, particularmente focada na área
da História. A investigação inicia-se com uma revisão da literatura que procurou
abranger dimensões da comunicação de ciência como “as suas definições”, perfis e
práticas dos comunicadores, bem como motivações e barreiras à prática
comunicacional. Esta revisão foi complementada com uma análise da prática de
comunicação de ciência nas ciências sociais e humanas, assim como uma
contextualização desta prática em Portugal em termos de legislação e
profissionalização.
Acrescenta-se ainda ao enquadramento teórico a exploração do conceito de História
Pública, abordando a sua definição, perfil, espaço e discurso, e os principais obstáculos
que enfrenta.
Dada a escassez de estudos empíricos sobre o tema, optou-se por uma abordagem
qualitativa, através da realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas a historiadores que se
encontrassem ou no Departamento de História da NOVA FCSH ou nos institutos
associados ao departamento, sendo eles o CHAM, IEM e o IHC. As entrevistas tiveram
como objetivo captar as perceções dos historiadores relativamente à comunicação de
ciência, abordando tópicos como definição do conceito, o perfil de um comunicador de
ciência, os obstáculos enfrentados, e o nível de envolvimento com esta prática.
Os resultados obtidos apontam para um “choque de rótulos”, em que a comunicação de
ciência, no contexto da História, se aproxima com o conceito de História Pública.
Verificaram-se também paralelismos relevantes entre as diferentes áreas científicas,
sugerindo que, apesar das especificidades, as dinâmicas da comunicação de ciência
são transversais.
This dissertation begins by recognising the scarcity of studies dedicated to science communication in the social sciences and humanities, particularly focused on the field of history. The research began with a literature review that sought to cover dimensions of science communication such as ‘its definitions’, profiles and practices of communicators, as well as motivations and barriers to the practice of communication. This review was complemented with an analysis of the practice of science communication in the social sciences and humanities, as well as a contextualisation of this practice in Portugal in terms of legislation and professionalisation. The theoretical framework is complemented by an exploration of the concept of Public History, addressing its definition, profile, space and discourse, and the main obstacles it faces. Given the scarcity of empirical studies on the subject, we opted for a qualitative approach by conducting semi-structured interviews with historians who were part of the NOVA FCSH History Department, or the institutes associated with the department, namely CHAM, IEM and IHC. The interviews aimed to capture historians' perceptions of science communication, covering topics such as the definition of the concept, the profile of a science communicator, the obstacles faced and the level of involvement with this practice.
