vigente.
This thesis analyses the songs of five Portuguese singers considered to be pimba - Ana Malhoa, Ágata, Mónica Sintra, Rosinha and Ruth Marlene - and highlights their social representations of the female gender. The main aim of the thesis was to identify, from the texts of 50 songs, based on Moscovici's theory of social representations, the Central Nuclei and Peripheral Systems that make up the social representation of ‘woman’ made in these songs as representative of a particular strand of Portuguese pimba culture, as an integral genre of popular culture. The content analysis carried out showed that the values expressed in these representations clashed with the traditional social representation of women, especially the view influenced by Christian culture, mixed with the prevailing social individualism.
