O presente estudo concentra-se numa análise do conceito de habitus e do papel deste no sistema
cartesiano. Mostrarei, contra Michel Foucault, como este conceito permite inserir a filosofia de
Descartes na tradição da filosofia como modo de vida. Tomando como ponto de partida uma
breve exposição da filosofia como modo de vida e das interpretações levadas a cabo por Pierre
Hadot e, principalmente, por Michel Foucault, no que toca a Descartes, articularei a minha
dissertação em três momentos essenciais: (i) Começarei por fazer uma breve análise de teor
histórico da noção de habitus, passando por autores como Aristóteles, Tomás de Aquino e
Suárez; (ii) procederei para uma descrição exegética da noção de habitus e do seu papel
fundamental no sistema cartesiano; (iii) termino com uma reavaliação do “momento cartesiano”
foucaultiano através do ponto de vista do habitus.
This study focuses on an analysis of the concept of habitus and its role in the Cartesian system. I will show, against Michel Foucault, how this concept allows Descartes’ philosophy to be included in the tradition of philosophy as a way of life. Taking as a starting point a brief exposition of philosophy as a way of life and the interpretations made by Pierre Hadot and, above all, by Michel Foucault, with regard to Descartes, I will articulate my dissertation in three essential moments: (i) I will begin with a brief historical analysis of the notion of habitus through authors such as Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas and Suárez; (ii) I will proceed to an exegetical description of the notion of habitus and its fundamental role in the Cartesian system; (iii) I will end with a reassessment of the Foucauldian “cartesian moment” through the point of view of habitus.
