consciencialização e sensibilização ambiental, tendo em conta o dever e a
as temáticas ambientais.
a esperança.
Environmental issues, particularly climate change, are increasingly on the agenda, both on the national and international agendas, but also on the agenda of the media themselves. As such, these issues have gained a role of relevance and visibility in the media coverage of the various media outlets. The dissertation aims to understand the audience's reception and perception of audiences regarding news related to environmental issues, as well as the contribution of the media, namely environmental journalism, to environmental awareness and sensitization, taking into account the duty and responsibility of the media to inform, alert, raise awareness and educate the public on environmental issues. In addition, this study study seeks to understand the emotions aroused by environmental news, from concern, anxiety and hope, and how emotions influence audience perception and behavior. In this way, the media coverage by the different media outlets can serve as a key point not only to amplify the public debate, but also to raise awareness and mobilize citizens for individual mitigation and adaptation actions. The results of this thesis demonstrate that journalistic coverage increases information for the audience, as well as helping to raise awareness, sensitize and educate society. However, this news also provokes a diversification of emotional responses, which vary between concern, anxiety and/or hope.
