This dissertation aims to develop an engineering project for a manufacturing facility dedi-cated to the production of psilocybin for pharmaceutical use in Portugal. The project addresses challenges in the industry, such as the scarcity of specialized production units, product incon-sistency, and lack of innovation. The proposal is seen as a promising business opportunity, focused on innovation. The work begins with a market analysis that justifies the production capacity and identi-fies target markets in Australia, the United States, Canada, Denmark, and Jamaica, with a market share goal of 3%. The annual production capacity was set at 20 kg of psilocybin (API). For the conceptual engineering project development, in vivo heterologous synthesis was chosen, offering advantages in terms of innovation and economic efficiency compared to culti-vation and chemical synthesis, which face market saturation and monopolization, respectively. The study includes a calculation of the total required investment, estimated at 20 572 500 âŹ. The financial analysis demonstrates the economic viability of the project, with an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 77,10% and a Net Present Value (NPV) of 79 645 497âŹ. A detailed analysis of the development and synthesis process is recommended to establish the mass and energy balance.
