A dissertação começa por fazer uma introdução ao concelho de Tavira, exaltando a fertilidade dos solos para o cultivo de produtos hortícolas que posteriormente seriam trocados por bens têxteis com os parceiros comerciais. Faz-se uma contextualização histórica a partir da Idade Média até finais do primeiro quartel do século XIX, nela incluindo a história da igreja por forma a explicar o nascimento das ordens religiosas que vêm a instalar-se no concelho. O estudo da importância destes conventos no planeamento urbanístico e o seu reflexo nas zonas limítrofes, entre a Idade Média e a Idade Moderna, no concelho de Tavira, é efectuado com base no levantamento sistemático das estruturas conventuais edificadas, de relatórios arqueológicos dos conventos. Por último é feito um estudo com o principal objectivo de interpretar a cultura material de cada estrutura religiosa e o seu impacto nos quotidianos da Idade Moderna. Conclui-se pela adequação da metodologia adoptada uma vez que esta permite tecer algumas considerações que se julgam relevantes no que respeita aos quotidianos de cada convento.
The thesis begins with an introduction to the municipality of Tavira, extolling the fertility of the soil for growing vegetables that would later be redeemed for textile goods with trading partners. It makes a historical context from the Middle Ages until the end of the first quarter of the nineteenth century, including her church history in order to explain the birth of the religious orders coming to settle in the county. The study of the importance of these convents in urban planning and its reflection in the border areas between the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, in the municipality of Tavira, is made using the systematic survey of the convent built structures, archaeological reports of monasteries ,. Finally we study with the main objective to interpret the material culture of each religious structure and its impact on everyday of the modern age. The results confirmed the validity of the approach adopted since this allows some considerations that deem relevant with regard to daily at a convent.
