This thesis explores how artificial intelligence is transforming professional football across three
core areas: scouting and recruitment, training and performance optimization, and injury
prevention. Drawing on academic research, industry case studies, and expert interviews with
figures like Sporting CP’s leadership, it analyzes both current applications and future trends. The
work highlights how AI enhances decision-making and competitive advantage, especially for
resource-constrained clubs, and examines the cultural, organizational, and ethical challenges
posed by these technological shifts. Ultimately, it reflects on how football can balance innovation
with preserving the human essence of the sport.
