This work project investigates the influence of private equity investments on the sporting
development of European football clubs in the top-five leagues under the key question: ‘Can
PE investors be better football club managers?’. Using Synthetic Control Method, 13 PE financed clubs are compared to synthetic counterparts to estimate performance effects. The
focus is on sporting performance. Financial indicators such as turnover and transfer
development are also analyzed. The findings reveal mixed effects and highlight how capital
injection is accompanied by professional governance, strategic coherence, and operational
control.
