Resumo(s)
This study evaluates the integration of marine natural capital into Portugal's Ocean
Satellite Account (OSA) using the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting
Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA EA) framework. Focusing on the Southwest Alentejo and
Vicentina Coast, it analyzes ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, commercial
fishing, and recreational activities. This illustrative exercise highlights the economic
value of these services and the challenges in data availability and valuation
methodologies. By addressing these gaps, the study underscores the potential of
ecosystem accounting to inform sustainable ocean management.
