The mining industry plays a preponderant role in economic and territorial development in Portugal, in which marble extraction stands out. The territory in which there are mining explorations requires efficient management, combined with the complexity of its territorial planning as well, as its environmental balance and local development in its surroundings. In this context, to contribute to territorial planning, the use of advanced technological tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing are increasingly common. This dissertation therefore aims to explore the role of these tools in mining management in Portugal, focusing on the Marble Zone, which presents itself as the most valued natural resources hub in the country. This study aims to understand how these tools, in addition to allowing a more detailed spatial analysis and constant monitoring, contribute to better decision-making both by agents in this industry, as well as by territorial decisionmakers who plan territorial planning in areas of resource exploration. In this theme, the methodology adopted based on GIS was based on the creation of an interactive dashboard in ArcGIS Online, bringing together geographic and informative information about the quarries in the marble region, allowing to represent how GIS can play a role in the efficient management of mining and how they can optimize the planning and territorial monitoring of this activity.
