In an increasingly unpredictable world, organizational success during crises relies on the
seamless functionality of teams and the adaptability of leadership. This thesis explores
enhancements in the areas of team cohesion, recruitment and retention practices, leadership
evaluation, and adaptability in selection processes. Drawing from qualitative insights based
on 28 interviews across industries, the research demonstrates how integrating real-world
dynamics with existing theoretical discourse strengthens organizational resilience. The
literature review, informed by the work of scholars such as Boin and ’t Hart, Blau, Dimitriou
et al., and Burke et al., illuminated the critical areas of adaptability as the foundation of team
functionality, the role of leadership in enhancing team dynamics, team cohesion and morale,
and recruitment and retention for sustained performance. The findings reveal significant
opportunities to build flexibility and empathy into leadership and organizational culture,
ensuring better preparedness for uncertainty. This study underscores the importance of
connecting theoretical exploration with practical applications, offering actionable strategies
for navigating crises while proposing directions for future research.
