Resumo(s)
The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for product development is becoming increasingly
important for competitiveness. As integral parts of Germany’s economy, this study focuses on
exploring how the automotive and telecommunications industry can leverage AI in product
development (PD) based on the Stage-Gate model. Influential adoption factors are then
investigated by applying the TOE-framework to each industry. The results show that AI
adoption focus does not yet lie on PD, despite outlined potential for competitiveness. Findings
further reveal dominant influences of in-house expertise, industry dynamics, leadership,
organizational culture and structure and existing prerequisites of PD practices for consideration
across industries.
