Voting has never been as important as it is today! Voting is a democratic act that should always be exercised, because it depends on who will be in charge of both the Member States and the European institutions that help govern European policy. In view of the abstention that was felt in 2019 regarding the European elections, it was decided to draw up the report based on a topic that is particularly sensitive to the master's student. This topic arose as part of his internship and was one of its main pillars. As a young person like so many others in Portugal, he believes that voting is important and helps to decide what political future we want for the European institutions, which ultimately allow us to have all the rights and guarantees set out in the European Union's Charter of Fundamental Rights. Therefore, its aim was to review the literature it will cover in order to understand why abstention levels are so high among the younger generation in Portugal. With this in mind, she intends to develop an academic hypothesis to try to understand how young people might behave in the face of the next European elections in 2024. It is essential to create a set of incentives for the Portuguese population, and here in this spectrum, young people, to awaken their interest in European politics, so that part of the abstention experienced in past elections can be mitigated more efficiently. A questionnaire was put together in order to extract the perception of those who filled it in as reliably as possible, in order to translate that perception into figures, with the aim of understanding where improvements can be made.
