alunos.
The societal advancements present new obstacles for education, teachers, and students. In a constantly changing world, we feel the need to return to our roots and what is most familiar to us. Schools, in collaboration with the subject of History, can be used as a pedagogical strategy to promote belonging and connection to “our locality.” Based on the Supervised Teaching Practice carried out at the Agrupamento de Escolas do Bom Sucesso in Alverca during the 2022/2023 school year, this work explores how the subject of History can help students connect with their locality. The Supervised Teaching Practice includes various projects, from which we gather students' opinions and perspectives. The collection and analysis of data allowed us to clarify the initial and final conceptions of students regarding the importance of local history and how it can be used as a pedagogical strategy to foster belonging and increase interest in the subject. I conclude with my analysis that local history is fundamental for building the collective identity of communities, and its inclusion in the school curriculum is essential for students to better understand the past of their localities. This approach promotes a sense of belonging and connection to the space they inhabit. By working with local themes, teachers can spark students' interest, creating an emotional connection. Additionally, teaching local history develops essential skills such as research and critical analysis of sources.
