Desde os anos 90, Portugal acolhe um grande número imigrantes de países da CPLP. Contudo, os jovens que chegam ao país deparam-se com um sistema de ensino que pode vir a ser injusto. A escola tem como um dos seus princípios proteger os seus alunos de qualquer tipo de discriminação, todavia tem sido uma das instituições difusoras de preconceito linguístico.
O ensino na escola cinge-se ao uso da norma Português Europeu (PE). Assim, o sucesso escolar dos aprendentes depende da forma como dominam esta norma. Na sua grande maioria, estes alunos deparam-se, ao entrar na escola portuguesa, com uma língua que lhes é pouco familiar visto que para muitos o português europeu não é a língua materna.
Desta forma, vemos reforçada a ideia de que algo deve ser feito para deslegitimar a discriminação das variações da língua portuguesa diferentes da norma. No que toca ao ensino, devem ser encontradas soluções que ajudem estes alunos a não se sentirem discriminados ou até julgados. É ainda importante que estes alunos não sejam penalizados por não usarem a norma PE no meio académico.
A seguinte dissertação procura proporcionar uma reflexão sociolinguística, dar a conhecer as dificuldades encontradas por estes jovens alunos, bem como oferecer soluções, de maneira a reduzir a visão preconceituosa perante a diversidade linguística e diminuir o insucesso e abandono escolar.
Since the 1990s, Portugal has welcomed a large number of immigrants from CPLP countries (Community of Portuguese Language Countries). However, young people arriving in the country face an educational system that can be unfair. One of the school's principles is to protect its students from any form of discrimination, but it has been one of the institutions spreading linguistic prejudice. Education in schools is limited to the use of the European Portuguese (PE) norm. Thus, students' academic success depends on how well they master this norm. For the most part, these students, upon entering Portuguese schools, encounter a language that is unfamiliar to them, as for many, European Portuguese is not their native language. In this way, we see the reinforcement of the idea that something must be done to delegitimize discrimination against Portuguese language variations different from the norm. Regarding education, solutions should be found to help these students avoid feeling discriminated against or even judged. It is also important that these students are not penalized for not using the EP norm in academic settings. The following dissertation aims to provide a sociolinguistic reflection, highlight the difficulties faced by these young students, and offer solutions to reduce the biased view towards linguistic diversity and decrease school failure and dropout rates.
