Resumo(s)
This study explores landowners’ responsibility within Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), investigating if a landowners' sense of Heimat, a deep-rooted attachment to land, encourages engagement in DRR within their communities. Set in Portugal, stakeholder perspectives were caught in a mix of quantitative-qualitative methods. The findings suggest a promising hypothesis, however, constrained by economic resources. The research also highlights how current challenges are the aftermaths of the rural exodus and collapse of agrarian societies. Policy recommendations focus on Payments for Environmental Services (PES) toward land security, alongside food security and biodiversity conservation, due to an expected increase in climate change threats.
