This study aims to analyze the centralization of Chega's leadership and its impact on the party's internal functioning. Based on a comparative analysis of the organizational structures and leadership models of populist radical right parties in Europe, this work focuses on the case of Chega, a party that has experienced remarkable electoral growth since its founding in 2019. This dissertation contributes to a better understanding of this phenomenon by answering the following research question: What is the degree of centralization of Chega and to what extent has it influenced the functioning and internal stability of the party? Through interviews and documentary analysis, we examine in particular the successive rejections of the party's statutes by the Portuguese Constitutional Court, the dynamics of the party's internal elections and the relationship between the party leadership and the parliamentary caucus. The study aims to understand the organizational specificities of Chega, namely the role of the leadership in the functioning of the party. In addition, it aims to understand how the centralization of powers in the leader can influence its stability and credibility, crucial factors for the proper functioning of a political party.
