A pandemia mundial (covid-19) veio acentuar o impacto
a aumentar. A fragmentação do “eu” no espaço digital veio possibilitar a descoberta do self
This research aims to contribute to existing discussions on the construction of networked identities. The global pandemic (covid-19) has accentuated the impact of social networks on everyday life, particularly with regard to the younger generation. For this reason, the main objective of this study is to understand the influence of the most recent social networks, such as Instagram and TikTok, on the development of the personal identities of young Portuguese people. It also seeks to explore the difference between the digital environment and the real world, in order to understand how young people perceive their own identity and how this is articulated with offline reality. We also need to understand how this interaction can impact their experiences and interactions in both online and offline contexts. It is considered important to analyse factors such as anonymity, privacy and visual representation in order to demonstrate how people present themselves and are perceived on digital networks. The research will be based on a mixed methodology through which data will be collected and testimonies gathered in order to gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the participants' experiences and backgrounds. This will involve the use of questionnaires and interviews to gather information through qualitative and quantitative data. Through a starting question supported by variables to be studied: association between new socialisation processes, networked identities and digital practices; relationship between the development of personal identity and the use of social networks; awareness of the process of identity construction; it was possible to conclude that, in the universe of the sample studied, digital practices are enabling new socialisation processes and new networked identities. The pandemic period has had a strong impact on human connections, making it possible to meet more people and interact more; at the same time, it has been noted that solitary identities tend to increase. The fragmentation of the "I" in the digital space has made it possible to discover the self in the most varied contexts, allowing identity to be explored at various levels. It was also possible to conclude that the digital age has forever changed the way young people perceive themselves and are perceived, both online and offline. However, although the digital space has many benefits, it is still feared by these young people, which is why digital literacy plays a fundamental role in this process.
