This report is the result of a six months intership at SIC’s general channel news report, five of which integrated in the writting of “Jornal de Sábado”. This work is a reflection based on my observation as an intern, in my view as a putative reporter and analysis of journalistic utterances created by me inserted into the thematic of analysis of celebrity cult. The public’s fragmentation, spread across generalist televison, cable televison and the internet, lead to an increasing concern in journalism to respond to the market’s logic. This reality, built on hybrid concepts of popular culture and cultural journalism, also lead celebrities to establish themselves while journalistic utterance, even in informative programmes known as rigid, formal and tradicionaly dedicated to hard news, such as the main news of a general television. This conjecture together with the visibility logic of celebrities in several areas of expertise, the growing fabrication of celebrities through communication strategies and fusion of icon in art, makes possible for celebrities to establish themselves as cultural products of simbolic value, performing with the media as a high profile object and, at the same time, using the media for self promotion, becoming an object of their own communication strategies. The integration of celebrities in news reports isn’t peacefull amongst communication sciences investigatores. While some authors consider that the inclusion of celebrities in the journalistic utterance ceases the news duty to broadcast content that is considered public service and that allows the citizen to develope a critical sense, others defend the necessity of the individual’s entertainment and the report of these types of news to promote social cohesion. This theoretical and legislative deadlock gives total independence to the admittance of celebrities in the media within the criteria of newsworthiness and editorial freedom. It is imperative to analyse to what extent entertainment and journalism are fusing and if these utterances battle journalistic limits, reflecting on an evolution trend from journalism to a market journalism and “infotainment”. This is the starting point to the internship report, through which I intend to analyse a few journalistic contents broadcasted on SIC’s informative space, where celebrities substantiate as journalistic utterance, and which factors determine the cult of celebrities in the channel’s news report.
