Resumo(s)
The newly established Nova Institute for Medical Systems Biology (NIMSB) in
Portugal aims at becoming a leader in medical systems biology. This work project
aims at exploring the challenges and opportunities along four key conceptual
components of the NIMSB, which are local partnerships, biobanking, clinical trials,
and industry collaborations. For the analysis, insights from 45 interview partners and
from additional research were consolidated. The results displayed four key strategies
for the institute regarding the key components. The NIMSB should strongly engage in
local and global collaborations from the beginning. A hybrid biobanking model should
be implemented and cutting-edge technologies are advised to be utilized for support
in clinical trials. Lastly, innovation and entrepreneurship should be forstered through
long-term industry partnerships. Altogether, this will lay a robust foundation for
NIMSB's future growth and impact in the research ecosystem.
