This report documents my experience as an intern in the news department of CNN Portugal, a channel belonging to the Media Capital group. The internship lasted for three months, starting on September 4, 2023, and ending on December 4 of the same year. Throughout this period, I was assigned to three different departments: initially joining the news desk team, where I produced “offs”, which are the narrated content by program anchors, while images illustrate what is being said; then spending a few weeks in the editoria Redação Central, where I could observe the production of reports from their initial phase to the final product ready for broadcast; and concluding the internship as a Line Producer, responsible for editing (and producing when necessary) oracles and leads before they went on air. The internship was conducted under the guidance of Paula Oliveira, Deputy Director of Information at CNN Portugal and at TVI, and under the supervision of Professor Jacinto António Rosa Godinho from Nova University of Lisbon. The Media Capital group´s investment in the CNN Portugal project was pioneering in the Portuguese television media landscape. The newsroom, once shared by TVI and TVI24, became shared by TVI and CNN Portugal. My curiosity about the process of replacing the old Channel 7 intensified during my internship, as I was immersed in the environment and frequented the spaces that gained a new life. Therefore, two years after the emergence of CNN Portugal, it seemed like an excellent opportunity to analyze and reflect on the changes that were made, both in terms of space and equipment, human resources, as well as management. It is also important to analyze journalistic practices, the genre, and topics covered in the content aired, and whether the initial objectives, set for the new project, were achieved. Through participant observation during the internship period combined with interviews, literature reviews and content analysis of programs such as Jornal 24 (TVI24), Jornal da Uma (TVI), and CNN Meio-Dia (CNN Portugal), I aimed to answer the guiding question in this report: Is CNN Portugal an innovative project in Portuguese media, or is it a renewed TVI24?
