A pessoa que efetua as traduções e, no fundo, torna a área dos Estudos de Tradução e todos os seus subcampos possível, o tradutor, de uma forma geral sempre foi uma figura desvalorizada e negligenciada. O presente relatório pretende analisar, com base no trabalho realizado durante o estágio e em bibliografia especializada, o perfil do tradutor jurídico e de processo penal e como este opera em contexto profissional. O estágio curricular surgiu no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução, especialização em inglês, e realizou-se na Procuradoria-Geral da República, no Departamento de Cooperação Judiciária e Relações Internacionais, Setor de Tradução, em Lisboa. Tal estágio permitiu não só ganhar alguma experiência na área da tradução jurídica, como também entrar em contacto direto com tradutores profissionais e especializados em matéria penal, o que tornou possível a elaboração do presente relatório.
The translator, the person who is behind the translations and, ultimately, makes the field of Translation Studies and all its subfields possible, has generally been an undervalued and neglected figure. This report aims to analyse, based on the work carried out during the internship and specialized bibliography, the profile of the legal and criminal matters translator and how they operate in a professional context. The internship was part of the Master’s degree in Translation, specialising in English, and took place at the Procuradoria-Geral da República, in the Department of Judicial Cooperation and International Relations, Translation Sector, in Lisbon. This internship allowed me not only to gain some experience in legal translation, but also to come into direct contact with professional translators who work in criminal matters and who helped me conduct this study.
