This thesis provides a critical analysis of the barriers and opportunities in Portuguese women's
football, focusing on Liga BPI. Using expert interviews and a mixed-method approach, it identifies
key barriers to stadium attendance, the drivers of sponsorships and impact of investment in
women’s football. The study highlights the need for enhanced fan engagement and investment. It
proposes innovative solutions, including a dedicated website and a documentary, to increase
interest and support. This research contributes significantly to the understanding of women's
football in Portugal, offering practical insights for its growth and emphasizing the importance of
community involvement in sports development.
